John Steiner’s wood candle collection is a natural fit for the thoughtfully curated aesthetic at Millstream Bainbridge. Handcrafted on Bainbridge Island, each piece reflects a quiet respect for materials, form, and function—values at the heart of our shop.

A retired diver turned woodworker, John brings a deep appreciation for the natural world into his practice. His candle holders are shaped by hand and finished using progressive hand sanding and hand-rubbed oil finishes, creating a surface that is remarkably smooth and inviting to the touch. The wood is never rushed its grain, tone, and character guide each final form.

The collection features boat-inspired candle holders, square block candles, and smaller votives, all made from a thoughtfully chosen mix of woods including walnut, maple, myrtlewood, alder, oak, and purple heart, with the purple heart adding rich red accents. Each piece is entirely one of a kind.

Timeless, tactile, and grounded, John Steiner’s work complements our focus on craftsmanship, natural materials, and objects meant to be lived with and appreciated over time. These are pieces that bring warmth to a space and invite a moment of pause.
